My first political forum is behind me, and stepping into the candidate role
was a unique experience. As a former Chief of Staff, I helped prepare
debates, and as a journalist, I’ve covered many candidates. But standing
on that stage myself, I realized I wasn’t as nervous as I expected. When
you believe in your message and are committed to making a difference, the
answers come naturally.
While walking into the venue, where the forum was being held, a
gentleman stopped to greet me and mentioned that he had been reading
my "Chat W/Pamela 4 Sheriff" columns in the MainStreet newspaper. He
said, “It’s been great getting to know you through your articles. It’s really
helped my wife and me think about who we’ll vote for this November 5th.”
Before I could ask him if that meant they were voting for me, his wife pulled
up. He quickly said his goodbyes, “I have to go pick up the church van.”
I had to rush inside to help my husband set up our table. If you’ve been
reading “Chat W/Pamela, you know I love to bake. Instead of traditional
political giveaways, I brought slices of my cream cheese pound cake to
share with attendees. My grandson loves it so much that he’s even
renamed it “Beanie’s Cake” (since he calls me Beanie instead of Grandma).
During the forum, I was grateful for the chance to share my vision for a
proactive Sheriff’s Office with more focus on prevention rather than
incarceration. I might not have won over every voter in the room, but from
the comments I received and the return trips to my table for more cake, I’m
pretty sure "Beanie’s Cake" was the crowd favorite.
As we continue this campaign journey, if you see me out and about, don’t
hesitate to ask if I’ve got any treats with me. It just might be your lucky day
- you could walk away with a slice of Beanie’s Pound Cake and, more
importantly, a sense of peace, knowing that with your vote for Pamela 4
Sheriff, you're choosing the recipe for real change. Together, let’s serve up
a brighter, more secure Alachua County 4 ALL.
